Call for International Collaboration: Let's Bring the APO-15 to the World
Hello everyone,
We are pleased to announce that we are currently seeking international collaborators to help expand the use of the Assessment of Positive Occupation 15 (APO-15) beyond Japan.
What is the APO-15?
The APO-15 is a 15-item self-report scale designed to assess the extent to which clients are engaged in “positive occupations”—activities that are scientifically supported to promote health and well-being. It is based on occupational therapy principles and has demonstrated strong reliability, validity, and clinical utility in a variety of settings in Japan, including mental health, physical rehabilitation, and community-based practice.
A list of previous studies on the development and application of the APO-15 is provided below and can be downloaded for your reference.

Why international collaboration?
The concept of "positive occupation" may vary across cultures and social contexts. To ensure that the APO-15 is relevant and effective globally, we are seeking partners to:
- Translate and culturally adapt the APO-15 into different languages
- Examine its psychometric properties (e.g., reliability, validity) in other countries
- Conduct cross-cultural studies on positive occupation
- Apply the APO-15 in intervention studies or case reports in clinical settings
We believe that by working together, we can develop a globally applicable tool to support well-being through occupation.
We are looking for…
Researchers, clinicians, and educators who are interested in:
- Promoting occupational therapy with a focus on well-being
- Exploring cultural differences in meaningful occupations
- Contributing to the international standardization of assessment tools
We welcome flexible, project-based collaborations depending on your interests and context.
